Gather is basically a clone of the time tracking and invoicing application I used to use before they (Bending Spoons) put the price up by a crazy amount leading to me cancelling my subscription.
I also thought it would be a good opportunity to test a start-to-finish development project with Claude Code after watching a few presentations and tutorials by Matt Pocock. He teaches using his Claude Code Skills to replicate traditional coding systems with AI coding platforms.
There’s some layout stuff to improve and some of the application flows aren’t as good as the old system.
I wrote the blog posts below as I was going through the stages to help me remember the process and make note of improvements for the next project.
The first steps in developing a time tracking and invoicing application with Claude Code. Using Laravel for the platform and Matt Pocock’s Claude Code Skills.
Ready to start implementing the GitHub Issues with Claude Code agents. The first one creates an Organization for the user and Membership as an admin when they sign up.
First run in the browser and there’s no navigation menu but Claude notices without prompting and fixes it. The in-browser testing that Claude Code does is amazing.
Running through more of the original Github issues that the first run created – Invoice Generation, Payments and Client Invoice view. All fairly easy for Claude Code to implement.
Adding a few missing things to the system. PDF generation, forgot the invoices need a tax number and notes field. Also added filtering for the invoice list and row totals.
